The Principled Parliament Project

is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to evaluating the diversity and quality of representation in the Parliament of Australia.

Aims

  • To understand what representation should look like in Australia, sensitive to the Australian political system and the history of its peoples.

  • To evaluate the composition, processes and decisions of the Parliament of Australia on a diversity sensitivity framework.

  • To develop and promote policy solutions that will aid diverse representation and diversity mainstreaming in the Parliament of Australia.

Values

We believe that

  • Representation of its citizens’ ideas and experiences is the primary role of the Parliament of Australia.

  • Diversity in representation is a principled aim with practical benefits.

  • Diversity sensitive representation can be achieved through Australia’s existing liberal democratic political and electoral systems.
